Blessing of the Festival

Yesterday, April 26, was the Court's first public appearance at an official event! (And our first time wearing all matching clothes not to mention) it was a wonderful ceremony recognizing the key groups that make the rose festival possible, and a few beautiful performances in between! The court was escorted by the royal rosarians for the first time, my escort was a lovely (and very spunky!) man named Bob. He later told me that he was Queen Hannah's escort at the blessing of the festival last year.....maybe a good sign?! I told him hopefully he rubbed off on me whatever he rubbed off on her! Speaking of the Queen, yesterday was our first time meeting the beautiful Queen Hannah!  She was so great and gave me some advice that I will hang out to for the rest of this journey! Needless to say it was a great first experience being recognized in public as the court!!

......there was also so many yummy cookies and pastries during the mingling time, now I understand why there was one year they had to let out the coronation dresses THREE TIMES!! Good thing I have a gym membership because I see many more enticing sweets in my future!

Dining etiquette to Lumberjack sports

Today we had an orientation from 8:00-12:00

We did a wardrobe fitting…..we're still getting more clothes!!
We learned from, Ms. Marilyn Clint and Mr. Rich Jarvis, how to deal with media and people asking us questions, they really grilled us!
We got (what the rose festival folk call) "our ditty's"…a few brief sentences on ourself and a unique thing about the Portland Rose Festival.
We also had our official dining etiquette class from Ms. Greene. Who knew that the salt and pepper must always travel together!?

Then right after being taught the proper way to hold a fork I changed into an old pair of jeans, some Romeo boots and zipped off to my dads high school forestry competition. I competed in the axe throw, interview, cross-cut sawing, and log rolling. I took home first place in girls open log rolling!

To top off the day some friends and I will be going downtown for one of my favorite things to do in Portland, attend concerts! We are seeing a band called the Colourists…don't worry if you've never heard of them, tickets were only $10 :)
